Hello there.

My name is Aaron Root. Nice to meet you.

I spent my summers growing up on Lake Erie, fishing for walleye and perch, learning patience and perseverance with my grandfather. I created my first business selling lures, tying perch rigs, and helping younger anglers learn to fish. Those memories continue to inspire me and my connection to the water.

I cast my first fly rod in 2019 on a guided trip in Western North Carolina. We fished in Tennessee that day, throwing dries for wild trout, learning to read water and where fish like to hold. It was an incredible day of sight fishing and rejection. That day sparked a change in my life, I was hooked.

Fly fishing was all new to me, an untapped outlet. Learning to cast, present a fly, mend (still working on it) gear, waterways, and trout—all uncharted territory. I've spent the last couple of years wading deep into the culture. I quickly found fly tying to be a culmination of my love for design, color, solving problems, and creativity. Everyone one of my flies are meant to be fished hard, get eaten, and will hopefully not die on a branch.

I'm a designer by trade and a maker at heart. Having a solid background in art and design, running a silkscreen studio out of my garage, and blowing glass in college. Tufting naturally fits into my collection of hobbies, so Tuft Drift was born.

I created Tuft Drift inspired by the beautiful markings, rich colors, and variations of every species we're lucky to catch. Each rug is meticulously made by hand and as unique as every adipose. I hope you appreciate the small details while accepting the imperfections.

I live in Columbus, OH, with my wife and two kids. My studio is a jam-packed organized garage where I make rugs—while continuing my obsession with tying flies, filling boxes, and trying new patterns. I'm currently exploring my local waters targeting smallmouth, pike, and trout.

I am grateful I have so much to learn and a passionate community to lean on. Please reach out if you have any questions or want to fish together. See you out there.

Tight lines,

Aaron
